Daily Current Affairs for 18th May 2017( English)

1.  Bilateral exercise SIMBEX-17 between Indian and Republic of Singapore Navy commences from 18th May to  24th May 2017   in South China sea.
2.   Indian Scientist Shrinivas Kulkarni  wins David Prize 2017. He will share the award with Andrej Udalski of the University of Warsaw and Neil Gehrels of NASA for their discoveries on domain astrophysics.
3.  The Union Cabinet has approved the amendment of public premises act 1971 in order to reduce the waiting period of the new incumbents  by speeding up the eviction of unauthorized occupants from government residences.
4.  The annual conference of the Departments of disaster management of States and Union Territories was held to review the preparedness of the states  and UT’s for dealing with any natural disaster in New Delhi on 17th May 2017.
5.  Along with Dr. Purnima Barman, Another Indian activist Sanjay Gubbi also won the Green Oscar ( Whitley award) for their works  in the field of animal and bird conservation in India. Other winners of this award are Indira Lacerna ( Wildman from Philippines )Ian Little (from South Africa), Alexander Blanco( from Venezuela) and Ximena – Velez-Liendo from Bolivia.
6.  Brand Finance Report of 2017 has listed Tata Group as the most valuable brand in India followed by Airtel(2nd)., LIC India  ( 3rd), Infosys (4th) and SBI (5th )  position respectively.
7. The Union Cabinet has given its approval to the signing of an agreement between India and Australia on Co-operation in Combating International Terrorism.
8. May 18- International Museum Day with the theme 2017 “ Museums and contested Histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums.”
9.    First Bhairon Singh Shekawat Life time Achievement Honour in Public service is given to Sikkim CM Pavan Kumar Chamling by President of India Shri Pranab Mukhurjee.
10. Tamil Nadu Human Development Report 2017 was released and top 3 districts are Kanyakumari, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin and bottom 3 districts are Ariyalur , Perambalur, Theni. In addition to this Villupuram and Perambalur didn’t show any progress for many years.
11. Indian Institute of Liver and digestive Sciences was inaugurated by our President Shri Pranab Mukhurjee  at Sonapur, West Bengal.
12. UITP Summit 2017 commenced at Montreal, Canada. UITP – International Association of Public Transport.
13. The first Tamil Film going to host at Cannes  Film Festival is “ Sangamithra” directed by Sundar.C and Jeyam Ravi and Arya  in its lead role.

15.   The Union Govt has  given its approval for establishing  Indian Agricultural Research Institute ( IARI)  in Assam
16.   Rail Swacch Report 2017 was released by the Union Railway Ministry and The survey was carried out by the Quality Council of India. The Visakhapatnam railway station is the cleanest, followed by Secunderabad, among the 75 busiest stations in the country, the Jammu railway station occupied the third spot, while the New Delhi station was ranked at 39 among the busiest stations.The Darbhanga railway station in Bihar was the dirtiest among the busiest stations.The Anand Vihar railway station was ranked at the 5th position, while Nizamuddin and Old Delhi stations were placed at 23th and 24th position. The railway station in Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was ranked at 14th position. The survey was carried out for total 407 stations, out of which 75 are in the A-1 category or busiest stations and 332 are in the A category.The Beas railway station was the cleanest, followed by Khammam, in the A category. Ahmedanagar station was ranked at 3rd position. While the Darbhanga railway station was at the 75th position in the A-1 category, Jogbani was the dirtiest in the A category.
17.   Union Cabinet has approved Construction of 10 units of India’s indigenous Pressurized Heavy water Reactors  under “ Make in India “ project.
18. The Union Cabinet has given ex- post  facto  approval to Pan-India implementation of Maternity Benefit Program . The Pregnant and lactating mother will be given Rs. 5000 in three installments (100, 2000,3000) for the birth of the first live child.
19.   Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dhave (60) passed away  due to illness  at  AIIMS  Hospital , Delhi.
20.   Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot  inaugurated the 15th National meet of state commissioners for Persons with disabilities to discuss implementation of the persons with disabilities act 1995.
