உலகின் முதலாவது ”கார்பன் எல்லை வரி” ( Carbon Border Tax) ஐரோப்பிய ஒன்றியத்தின் ஐரோப்பிய ஆணையம் (EC) முன்மொழிந்துள்ளது. இதன் மூலம் எஃகு, சிமென்ட், உரங்கள் மற்றும் அலுமினியம் உள்ளிட்ட கார்பன் பொருட்களின் இறக்குமதிக்கு 2026 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் 'கார்பன் எல்லை வரி' விதிக்க திட்டமிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஐரோப்பிய ஒன்றியத்தின் புதிய காலநிலை இலக்கை அடைவதற்கான திட்டத்தின் ஒரு பகுதியாக (2030 க்குள் 1990 மட்டத்திலிருந்து 55% கார்பன் உமிழ்வைக் குறைத்தல்) இந்த வரிவிதிப்பு முன்மொழியப்பட்டுள்ளது.
